European leaders discuss situation in Belarus
European leaders discussed the situation in Belarus during a summit of the European People's Party held in Brussels on March 25, said the press office of the Movement for Freedom.
Attending the summit were, among others, Herman Van Rompuy, president of the European Council; Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission; Jerzy Buzek, president of the European Parliament; and the leaders of 17 countries, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.
Alyaksandr Milinkevich, chairman of the Movement for Freedom, delivered a report during the summit. The discussion on Belarus focused on the productivity of the Belarus-EU dialogue, recent violations of human rights in the country, the prospects for economic cooperation, and Belarus' ongoing local elections campaign, the press office said. //BelaPAN
