Hundreds of people pay their respects to former chairman of Minsk city government

Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to Mikhail Pawlaw, the former chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, who lied in state at the Central House of Officers in Minsk on June 8, BelaPAN reports.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka, other government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and common people arrived.

The coffin was brought to the House of Mercy later in the day.

Mikhail Pawlaw died on June 6 at the age of 57.

He underwent surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor last April and was relieved of his duties as head of the city executive committee two months later. He was said to have undergone more surgical procedures afterward but finally lost his battle with the disease.
