Lukashenka raises money prizes for medal-winning Olympians, Paralympians
Alyaksandr Lukashenka, by his presidential edict issued on June 25, raised the amounts of prize money to be awarded for medals won at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, as quoted by BelaPAN.
Money prizes for Belarusian athletes were raised from $100,000 to $150,000 for a gold medal, from $50,000 to $75,000 for a silver medal and from $30,000 to $50,000 for a bronze medal, the Belarusian leader's press office said.
The edict also increased money prizes for medals won at the Paralympic Games in 2012 and 2014 and the 2013 Deaflympic Games in Athens. Money prizes for disabled athletes were raised from $30,000 to $50,000 for a gold medal, from $15,000 to $30,000 for a silver medal and from $10,000 to $20,000 for a bronze medal.
In addition, Mr. Lukashenka increased from 160 to 250 the number of monthly allowances paid to medal-winning Olympians and Paralympians and their coaches.
