High temperatures expected to continue until end of this week
High temperatures across Belarus are expected to continue until the end of this week, Volha Fyadotava, chief forecaster at the National Hydrometeorology Center, told reporters on Wednesday, as quoted by BelaPAN.
They are to soar to 37 degrees Celsius in the Homyel region. Elsewhere in the country, daily temperatures will range from 30 to 34 degrees.
“In Belarus, high temperatures are usually accompanied with high humidity. As a result, there is less oxygen in the air and people feel unwell,” Ms. Fyadotava said.
Abnormally high temperatures and heavy rains occur in the country from time to time, the forecaster said. “The summer may be abnormally hot or wet for two years in a row, and get back to normal in the next five years,” she said. “For instance, no heavy rains were recorded in Belarus between 1964 and 1972, but it has now been pouring down with rain in the capital city for the second year in a row.”
Temperatures are forecast to drop by two or three degrees Celsius in August, Ms. Fyadotava said, expressing hope that cooler weather would replace the sizzling temperatures in the middle of the first week of August.
