OSCE technical group to arrive on Sunday to assess situation before start of election campaign

A technical group of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will stay in Belarus between September 26 and 29 to assess the situation before the start of the presidential election campaign, Jandos Asanov, deputy head of the OSCE Office in Minsk, told BelaPAN on Friday.

Beata Martin-Rozumilowicz, deputy head of the ODIHR Elections Department will lead the mission, Mr. Asanov said.

The group is expected to meet with government officials, members of the central election commission and representatives of the embassies of the European Union's member countries, Russia and Kazakhstan, he said.

The group may also meet with representatives of opposition parties and with potential presidential candidates, Mr. Asanov said, adding that the schedule of the visit was being finalized.
