Lukashenka says that he cannot imagine Belarus being part of EU

Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he could not even imagine Belarus being part of the European Union while talking to a group of Polish reporters on November 4.

“Nobody invites us there, and we do not consider the scenario as well,” the Belarusian leader said. “But I personally think that we won’t perform worse than you, Poles, do in the European Union. And that’s it. We only demand equal conditions.”

If the EU invited Belarus to become its member, the Belarusian authorities would “immediately” start considering the offer, Mr. Lukashenka said.

The Belarusian leader renewed his criticism of the police treatment of demonstrators in the EU.

“Have you seen what has recently taken place in France or Germany or Britain? What was going on there? People took to the street just to voice their opinion about pension reforms,” he said. “Why did they need to clamp down on them with the use of tear gas and pour a bit of water onto them? When they were overturning cars here, we responded as well, but we never used gas or water cannons.” //BelaPAN
