US Senator McCain brands Lukashenka “ruthless and brutal tyrant”
US Senator John McCain has described Alyaksandr Lukashenka as a "ruthless and brutal tyrant" on the "wrong side of history."
Speaking at a meeting with students of European Humanities University in Vilnius on February 4, the prominent politician noted that the popular unrest sweeping across the Middle East and Northern Africa is "strong lessons" that any government that deprives its people of its "God-given rights" is doomed to fail, AP reported.
Mr. McCain and fellow Senator Joseph Lieberman led a delegation of US congressmen who visited the Lithuanian capital on Friday. They met with President Dalia Grybauskaite, Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis and a group of Belarusian opposition activists.
Mr. McCain was the Republican nominee in the 2008 US presidential election. //BelaPAN
