Lukashenka dismisses Interior Minister Kulyashow


Alyaksandr Lukashenka, by his May 11 presidential edict, dismissed General Lieutenant Anatol Kulyashow from his position as minister of internal affairs and appointed Ihar Shunevich to serve in the post.

Ihar Shunevich Prior to the appointment, Mr. Shunevich was first deputy interior minister/criminal police chief.

Born in the Luhansk (formerly Voroshilovgrad) region of Ukraine in 1967, Mr. Shunevich graduated from the academy of the Belarusian interior ministry in 1992. Between 2007 and 2012, he served at the Committee for State Security (KGB), where he headed the investigative directorate and then the main directorate for counterintelligence support of law-enforcement agencies.

He was appointed first deputy interior minister/criminal police chief in January 2012.

Mr. Kulyashow had served in the position of interior minister since June 2009. //BelaPAN
