Belarus had $1-billion export surplus in trade in goods in first four months of 2012, official statisticians report

 

Belarus had a $1-billion export surplus in trade in goods in the first four months of 2012 compared with a deficit of $3.4 billion in the same period of the previous year, according to the National Statistics Committee (Belstat).

Belarus reportedly had a $5,453.1-million deficit of foreign trade in goods in 2011 against a deficit of $9,600.9 million in the previous year.

In the first four months of 2012, Belarus' foreign trade in goods reportedly totaled $31,526.4 million, an 18.6-percent year-on-year increase, with exports amounting to $16,275.5 million, a 40.4-percent increase, and imports to $15,251 million, a 1.7-percent increase.

Belarus had a deficit of $3,656.5 million in trade with CIS member countries in the first four months of 2012, compared with $3,007.8 million in the same period of 2011. Exports rose by 23.2 percent to total $7,129.9 million and imports by 22.6 percent to total $10,786.4 million. Trade with CIS countries increased by 22.8 percent to total $17,916.3 million.

In the first four months of 2012, Belarus had a deficit of $4,886.9 million in trade with the other two members of the Customs Union, Kazakhstan and Russia. The deficit was $3,225.7 million in the same period of 2011. Exports totaled $5,278.8 million in the first four months of 2012, an increase of 18.1 percent, and imports $10,165.7 million, a rise of 32.1 percent. Trade with the Customs Union member countries rose by 26.9 percent to total $15,444.5 million.

In particular, trade with Russia totaled $15,146.3 million, a 27-percent increase, with exports rising by 16.9 percent to total $5,026.9 million and imports by 32.6 percent to total $10,119.4 million. Belarus had a deficit of $5,092.5 million compared with $3,331.9 million in the same period last year.

Trade with Kazakhstan totaled $298.2 million, a 24.9-percent increase. Exports amounted to $251.9 million, a 46.1-percent rise, and imports to $46.3 million, a decrease of 30.1 percent, with Belarus having an export surplus of $205.6 million against $106.2 million in the same period last year.

Belarus' trade with foreign countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) totaled $13,610.2 million, a 13.5-percent increase. Exports rose by 60 percent to total $9,145.6 million, while imports decreased by 27.9 percent to total $4,464.6 million. Belarus had an export surplus of $4,681 million compared with a deficit of $392.9 million in the same period last year.

Trade with the European Union's countries totaled $10,380.4 million, an increase of 50 percent. Belarus' exports rose by 80 percent to total $7,823.7 million, while its imports decreased by 8.8 percent to total $2,556.7 million. Belarus thus had an export surplus of $5,267 million compared with $1,492.1 million in the first four months of 2011. //BelaPAN
