Trade to dominate Lukashenka's talks in Ecuador
Trade was expected to dominate Thursday's talks between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.
Mr. Lukashenka arrived in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, on June 27.
The Belarusian leader's press office said that Belarus was ready to offer Ecuador its quarry dump trucks, agricultural and road construction machinery, passenger vehicles, mineral fertilizers, machine tools, tires, chemical fibers, optical equipment and electronics.
"Ecuador occupies an important place in Belarus' plans for establishing trade and economic relations with countries of the Latin American region. Trade between Belarus and Ecuador has been carried out to a large degree through third countries, its volume is not high so far," the press office said. "Nevertheless, bilateral trade more than doubled in the last five years and reached $47 million in 2011."
The leaders of Belarus and Ecuador were expected to outline joint economic projects at their talks, according to the press office.
Upon his arrival in Quito, Mr. Lukashenka laid a wreath at a monument to heroes of Ecuador's struggle for independence and visited an area where the country is crossed by the equator. // BelaPAN
