Belarusian Popular Front chairman applies for registration of nomination group in parliamentary campaign

Alyaksey Yanukevich, chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), on Tuesday filed an application for the registration of his nomination group in Awtazavodskaya Electoral District No. 92 in Minsk in the ongoing parliamentary campaign, said the opposition party’s press office.

The nomination groups of parliamentary hopefuls are required to gather 1000 voter signatures to make them eligible for registration as a candidate in September’s House of Representatives elections. However, the BPF Council recommended at its meeting in June that BPF activists should use the signature gathering period for promoting the party’s platform without delivering the collected signatures to the election authorities after it ends.

Six more people applied for the registration of their nomination groups in Awtazavodskaya Electoral District No. 92, where Mr. Yanukevich ran in previous parliamentary elections, according to the press office.

One more BPF activist, Ivan Sheha, also applied Tuesday for the registration of his nomination group in Slonim, Hrodna region. //BelaPAN
