Russia’s top election official to observe Belarus’ parliamentary elections
Vladimir Churov, chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, will personally observe the forthcoming elections for Belarus’ House of Representatives, Nikolai Konkin, secretary of the commission, told reporters on Wednesday.
“We are forming a group of observers that will represent the central election commission of Russia,” Mr. Konkin said. “As far as I know, the chairman of the commission will personally take part in the observation process.”
Mikalay Lazavik, secretary of Belarus’ central election commission, told BelaPAN that an official document, which would indicate Mr. Churov’s intention to personally take part in the observation process, had not yet been received. “However, we talked about that with officers of Russia’s central election commission, who asked questions concerning observation,” he said.
Mr. Lazavik noted that representatives of Russia’s central election commission would take part in short-term observation. //BelaPAN
