Opposition parliamentary candidate Alena Famina searched at border again
Alena Famina, a parliamentary candidate representing the unregistered Narodnaya Hramada Belarusian Social Democratic Party, had her baggage thoroughly searched by Belarusian customs officers at the Lithuanian border on Wednesday.
The departure of the Minsk-Vilnius train in which Ms. Famina was traveling was delayed until the search was completed, reported the Belarus Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Ms. Famina was also searched by Belarusian border guards and customs officers at the Polish border on the night between August 31 and September 1. She was taken off a Minsk-bound train as she was returning from Warsaw, where she had visited her son, who studies languages there. Customs officers were looking for a large amount of cash on her but did not find anything.
Earlier, Alyaksey Hawrutsikaw, another parliamentary candidate representing the Narodnaya Hramada Belarusian Social Democratic Party, had his car searched by police in Vitsyebsk. Police officers seized movie and music CDs, notepads and some printed materials from him. //BelaPAN
