Belarus may sell bonds in Europe, Asia in 2013

Belarus is exploring the possibility of selling $500 million to $600 million worth of government bonds in European and Asian markets in 2013, Finance Minister Andrey Kharkavets told reporters in Minsk on Wednesday.

He said that it was a "standard amount of borrowing" and bond issues of lower amounts were not sold as a rule.

The minister acknowledged that international borrowing markets were "uncomfortable." "In any case it makes sense to be present in these markets so that we are not forgotten. We must inform investors of macroeconomic changes in the country so that they prepare money for the future," he said.

Mr. Kharkavets said that the finance ministry would "sound out" international markets before issuing bonds. //BelaPAN
