Liberal Democratic Party set to mobilize «party resources» for presidential election

The strategic priority of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is to mobilize "the party resources" for the 2015 presidential election, LDP Chairman Syarhey Haydukevich told reporters on Tuesday, speaking during the opening ceremony for the party's new head office in Minsk.

In particular, the party will focus on the financial and organizational aspects of the performance of its regional organizations and on the training of its members, Mr. Haydukevich said.

Thanks certificates were presented during the ceremony to representatives of the Minsk city and Vitsyebsk and Homyel regional organizations of the LDP for their performance during the recent House of Representatives elections.

Mr. Haydukevich introduced individuals appointed to key positions within the party. One of the appointees is his son, LDP Deputy Chairman Aleh Haydukevich, who became head of the Minsk city organization of the party.

Aleh Haydukevich served as chief of the Frunzenski district police station in Minsk between 2009 and August 2012.

Syarhey Haydukevich, a 58-year-old populist politician who is critical of both the government and opposition forces, is frequently accused of secret cooperation with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
Mr. Haydukevich ran in Belarus' presidential elections in 2001 and 2006 but received only 2.5 percent and 3.5 percent of the vote, according to the central election commission. //BelaPAN
