Beltranshaz promises uninterrupted flow of gas to Europe

During the cold season, AAT Beltranshaz is ready to ensure an uninterrupted supply of Russian natural gas to customers in Belarus and pump gas across the Belarusian territory as required by contracts with Europe, the gas pipeline company says in a statement issued on October 22.

Beltranshaz has made all organizational and technical preparations to meet the peak demand for gas, the statement says, adding that the necessary amount of gas was being pumped into underground storage facilities.

The modernization of the Zakhodnyaya gas distribution station, which supplies Minsk with gas, was one of the main measures to prepare for the cold season, the statement says.

In late 2011, Russia`s natural gas monopoly Gazprom increased its stake in Beltransgaz to 100 percent by acquiring another 50 percent in the company from the Belarusian government for $2.5 billion.

In the latest gas conflict with Russia, which erupted in June 2010, Belarus used its control of Beltranshaz to briefly reduce the flow of Russian gas to Europe. //BelaPAN
