Cuban ambassador plays up relations with Belarus
The peoples of Belarus and Cuba share a close relationship despite the long distance between the countries, Cuban Ambassador Alfredo Neves Portuondo told reporters in Minsk on December 28.
"Political and diplomatic relations between Belarus and Cuba are at the highest level," said the ambassador. "We have always received the most active support from Belarus and its people in the fight against the US blockade of Cuba. Our peoples are free peoples that always stand up for their freedom of choice and their sovereignty."
The diplomat played up economic ties between Belarus and Cuba, saying that they had been gradually developing this year. He said that Cuba would continue importing Belarusian farm tractors next year.
More than 10,000 Belarusian-made tractors are in operation in Cuba at present, the ambassador said. "We now work to establish maintenance centers for the imported equipment," he said. "Apart from this, great efforts are made to modernize our agriculture, that's why we plan to use other Belarusian-made machinery." //BelaPAN
