Lukashenka allows sale of state property through electronic trading

Alyaksandr Lukashenka, by his January 10 presidential edict, allowed state property, including land plots, to be sold into private hands through electronic trading.

The edict is aimed at creating a uniform and transparent system of auctioning off state property, according to the Belarusian leader's press office.

Under the edict, bids may be submitted no later than three working days before the auction.

The only bidder at an auction is granted the right to buy the auction item at a starting price plus five percent both if no other bids were submitted and if other bidders fail to attend the auction.

The edict also introduces fines for "unscrupulous" bidders that prevent rival bidders from buying property at an auction, the press office said. //BelaPAN
