Two opposition activists arrested in Vitsyebsk
Two members of the Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) party were arrested in Vitsyebsk on February 16.
Stanislaw Lawronaw and Alyaksey Kishchuk were apprehended by police after putting up a sign saying “Freedom to Political Prisoners” near Liberty Square at the center of the city in northern Belarus, according to the opposition party’s press office.
The young men were taken to a police station and then to a detention center where they will be held pending their trial on February 18. They will answer a civil offense charge.
The activists displayed the sign as part of a nationwide campaign in support of political prisoners that began on February 13. //BelaPAN
