Lukashenka meets with biathlon star Darya Domrachava
Alyaksandr Lukashenka on February 23 met with Belarusian biathlon star Darya Domrachava, reported the presidential press office, BelaPAN said.
Syarhey Bulyhin, a retired biathlete who is a 1984 Olympic champion, also attended the meeting, according to the press office.
“Alyaksandr Lukashenka once again congratulated Darya Domrachava on winning a gold medal at the [recent] 2013 Biathlon World Championships in the Czech city of Nove Mesto,” the press office said. “The head of state and the athletes talked to each other in a warm and free-and-easy way. They discussed forthcoming [biathlon] events and the prospects for the development of biathlon in the country.”
The 26-year-old Domrachava (Domracheva), who had not had a top 10 finish at the championships before the final race, came first in the women’s mass start.
Ms. Domrachava’s gold became Belarus’ only medal at the championships.
That was her second world title. She won the gold in the pursuit at last year’s world championships in Germany’s Ruhpolding.
