Lukashenka meets with president of Bolivia in Caracas
Alyaksandr Lukashenka on March 8 met with the president of Bolivia, Juan Evo Morales, in Caracas, where the two leaders were staying to attend the funeral of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
“I never though that we would meet on such an occasion,” Mr. Lukashenka said, according to the government’s news agency BelTA. “I and Hugo Chavez talked much with each other about your country. We even developed a plan of joint activities and now you and I will have to continue this cause. I hope very much and is almost sure that the new president who will be elected in Venezuela will be with us to implement Hugo Chavez’s ideas.”
“I want to assure you that Belarus will do everything to establish the same relations with Bolivia as those existing between Belarus and Venezuela,” Mr. Lukashenka said.
Mr. Morales in turn expressed readiness to develop bilateral relations with Belarus, BelTA said.
“I thank you for the meeting and hope that it would contribute to this,” he was quoted as saying. “Unfortunately, we have gathered together here on a mournful occasion. This is the death of our common friend. We should be united now as ever before and be together under these circumstances. On behalf of all Latin American people, I thank you for the support that you provide at this said time.” //BelaPAN
