Belarusian ambassador presents his credentials to president of Ireland

Syarhey Aleynik, the London-based Belarusian ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, on March 26 presented his credentials to Irish President Michael Higgins, reported the press office of the Belarusian foreign ministry.

According to the press office, during the ceremony, which took place at the president's official residence, Messrs. Aleynik and Higgins confirmed their countries' interest in the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in the political, trade, economic, humanitarian, scientific and technical spheres.

During his visit to Ireland, Mr. Aleynik also had meetings with top-ranking representatives of the Irish foreign ministry, including Secretary General David Cooney, Political Director David Donahue and Anne Barrington, director general of the Europe Division.

The entire range of issues concerning relations between the two countries and the prospects for cooperation between Belarus and the European Union were discussed during the meeting, the press office said.

While in Ireland, Mr. Aleynik is also scheduled to meet with Lucinda Creighton, minister for European Affairs; Lorcan Fullam, director general of the Europe Division at the Prime Minister's Office; Pat Breen, chairperson of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade; Clare Byrne, deputy lord mayor of Dublin; Conor Fahy, director of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Department at the Enterprise Ireland Association; Vincent Pierce, Belarus’ honorary consul in Dublin; and top-ranking representatives of a number of large Irish companies interested in the development of business ties with Belarus, the press office said. //BelaPAN
