Lukashenka prohibits imports of malting barley

 

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has prohibited imports of malting barley this year despite a considerable fall in the crop's yield.

"There should not be a single ton of imported malting barley. They will not bring [malting barley] from Germany or the Czech Republic," he said on Friday while staying in the Mahilyow region.

Mr. Lukashenka added that the quality of malting barley gathered this year and the yield were "not bad," according to media reports.

As of August 16, farms had harvested 233,000 tons of malting barley, down by 18 percent compared with the same date a year before. The per hectare yield fell year-on-year from 40 to 33 percent, according to the agriculture ministry. // BelaPAN
