Belarus, China will counter human rights criticism together, Lukashenka says
Belarus and China will join their forces for countering criticism of their human rights records by "certain forces in the West," Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at a meeting with Meng Jianzhu, secretary of the Central Politics and Law Commission of the Communist Party of China, in Minsk on November 1.
Mr. Lukashenka expressed hope that Mr. Meng's visit would "open a new page in our fairly intensive consultations and relations," according to the government's news agency BelTA.
Mr. Lukashenka reportedly described China as a strategic ally of Belarus, saying that the foundation for the bilateral relationship had been laid back in the Soviet era.
Both countries have a shared vision of the situation in the world, he said.
Mr. Lukashenka lauded China for leading what he said was a "fight for a multipolar world." "We also adhere to the stance," he said. "We have always supported and will support China as far as it concerns its territorial integrity, as well as will counter together with you attacks on our human rights records and other issues from certain forces in the West. We are familiar with this topic." // BelaPAN
