Lukashenka urges China to invest more in Belarus

Belarus is interested in direct Chinese investments, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at a meeting with Meng Jianzhu, secretary of the Central Politics and Law Commission of the Communist Party of China, in Minsk on November 1.

Mr. Lukashenka said that the two countries were developing their economic relations and financial cooperation fairly actively, according to the government's news agency BelTA. He referred to plans to build the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park in the Minsk region, where he said "companies using the most state-of-the-art technologies will operate."

Mr. Lukashenka asked Mr. Meng to tell Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he described as a good friend of his, that Minsk would stick to friendly relations with China.

Mr. Lukashenka reportedly expressed gratitude to Beijing for providing loans for many projects in Belarus and stressed, "Of course, we would like China to make direct investments in the Belarusian economy more actively." // BelaPAN
