Belarusian delegation to attend meetings on Inhumane Weapons Convention
A Belarusian delegation will attend a number of meetings on the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons (Inhumane Weapons Convention), which are to take place in Geneva between November 11 and November 15.
In particular, the delegation will attend a meeting of the convention's member states, the seventh conference on the explosive remnants of war and the 15th conference on prohibitions or restrictions on the use of mines, booby-traps and other devices, reported the press office of the Belarusian foreign ministry.
According to the press office, the delegation will be led by Mikhail Khvastow, Belarus’ permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, and will include representatives of the foreign ministry.
Participants are expected to discuss the implementation of the convention and its protocols and steps to make the protocols' provisions universal.
Other issues on the agenda include assistance to victims of explosive remnants of war (ERW) and the development of technologies for protecting the civilian population from the indiscriminate effects of mines, the press office said.
Participants will exchange experience of the implementation of national demining and ERW destruction programs and discuss measures to end the use of improvised explosive devices by terrorists and armed non-state actors, the press office said. //BelaPAN
