Belarusian ambassador to France visits Nice
Pavel Latushka, the Belarusian ambassador to France, on November 8 visited Nice, France’s fifth most populous city located on the Mediterranean coast.
Mr. Latushka had a meeting with Rudy Salles, vice-mayor of Nice and a member of the French Parliament, and top-ranking government officials of the urban community of Nice Cote d'Azur to discuss the prospects for expanding economic and other ties between Belarus and the region, reported the Belarusian embassy in Paris.
Mr. Salles noted the economic efficiency of the existing railroad link between Nice and Minsk and suggested launching an air service between the two cities, the embassy said.
Since famous Belarusian-born artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) lived in the Cote d'Azur village of Saint-Paul de Vence from 1966 until his death and was buried there, Mr. Latushka, a former culture minister, proposed organizing an exhibition of works by Yehuda Pen (1854-1937), a Jewish-Belarusian painter who was Marc Chagall’s art teacher in Vitsyebsk, and asked for assistance.
He also said that Belarus' National Academic Grand Opera and Ballet Theater was expected to give performances in Nice in 2014 within the framework of Days of Belarusian Culture in France.
Mr. Latushka also had a meeting with Philippe Servetti, business development director at Team Cote d'Azur, the region’s promotion and economic development agency.
Messrs. Latushka and Servetti exchanged opinions on possible trade, economic and investment cooperation between Belarus and the region and identified specific steps to organize an exchange of visits by business delegations, the embassy said. //BelaPAN
