Belarusian Popular Front’s member in Lahoysk loses his job

The management of Minawta Ltd., a company in Lahoysk, Minsk district, that manufactures motor vehicle components, has refused to prolong a fixed-term employment contract with Dzmitry Shevel, a member of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF).

According to the BPF press office, Mr. Shevel has held various jobs in the company, never committed any disciplinary offenses and views his dismissal as politically motivated.

Mr. Shevel was warned in November 2013 that his contract would not be extended. Simultaneously, the management refused to transfer him to another position, despite the fact that the company has many vacancies.

Mr. Shevel sent complaints to Minawta’s parent company, Germany’s GM-Tec, and to the German embassy, but to no avail.

Mr. Shevel ran in local elections in 2003 and 2013 and was a candidate in the most recent, 2012 House of Representatives elections.

The BPF press office noted that another member of the party, Ivan Sheha had been dismissed in the summer of 2013. The traumatic surgeon worked at the Slonim District Hospital for 30 years.

The BPF plans to report the politically motivated dismissals of its members to Miklos Haraszti, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Belarus, the press office said. //BelaPAN
