Belarus would like to participate in Nicaragua Canal project, Foreign Minister Makey says
Belarus would like to participate in the construction of the Nicaragua Interoceanic Grand Canal, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said in an interview broadcast by state television channel Belarus One on Sunday night, while commenting on his June 18-19 visit to the Latin American country.
"Nicaragua has started practically implementing the ambitious and very interesting idea of the construction of a canal between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean," Mr. Makey said. "We are really interested in this project with regard to exports of our BelAZ haul trucks, MAZ trucks and Amkador road construction machinery there."
According to Mr. Makey, Belarus and Nicaragua could also cooperate in the agricultural sector. "In Nicaragua, there are five million hectares of land that could be used for agricultural purposes, but only one million hectares are used at present," he said. "I think there is a large field of activity for our experts, researchers and companies engaged in the manufacture of agricultural machinery."
Nicaragua expresses a keen interest in the development of cooperation with Belarus in all areas, Mr. Makey noted. //BelaPAN
