Police probing hockey club's complaint about top sports journalist's interview
The director general of Belarus' flagship ice hockey team Dinamo Minsk has asked the police to investigate remarks made by a top sports journalist in an interview published by the newspaper BelGazeta on May 21.
In the interview, Uladzimir Berazhkow, editor-in-chief of the popular sports newspaper Pressbol, accused the club of misusing public money and suggested that Dinamo players shared their big salaries with those who helped the club receive lavish funding from the government.
Dinamo Director General Alyaksey Torbin said in his complaint filed with the Maskowski district police department that the remarks amounted to slander and knowingly false information.
Mr. Berazhkow was interviewed by a police investigator in connection with the complaint on June 27.
As Mr. Berazhkow told BelaPAN, Dinamo has long held a grudge against Pressbol over its critical articles.
He said that the club had also complained about the paper to the information ministry. // BelaPAN
